Our Quiet Growing Time
A Guide to Learning for CHildren 6 and Under
“In this time of extraordinary pressure, educational and social, perhaps a mother’s first duty to her children is to secure for them a quiet and growing time, a full six years of passive receptive life, the waking part of it for the most part spent out in the fresh air.”

In order for a mother to secure for her children a quiet and growing time, we must be intentional in creating it for them. We must secure for our children a "full six years" of this quiet and growing time.
A Quiet Time is a time of silence, of little noise or bustle. It is a time of little distraction. It is a time of calm and stillness. It is not too full, and it is not too busy. It allows children the time and space to be children.
A Growing Time is a time for natural development. It is not forced. It is not learning too much and too soon. It is a time of slow and steady learning through playing and exploring. It is a time for wonder. It is a time of magic.
This is what I am trying to give my young children each and every day...
One way I am doing this is by teaching my children their letters and letter sounds in a way that honors their "quiet growing time". By reading together, playing together, and creating together, we are learning our letters through the very best picture books.
